Emerge At The Pace of Nature

Hello Reader

Welcome to new readers and nature explorers, many of whom I met this last weekend at a local event here in the Tri Cities.

If you're new to my orientation to the world, welcome, and in case you haven't been told this recently: Rich silence and slow motion are great treasures to savor. Especially amidst the bustle and buzz of spring.

Read on for our weekly reflection, practice, and tiny tender being.

Cheers,

Jennifer

WEEKLY REFLECTION

Emerge At The Pace Of Nature

Jennifer Ruth Keller

My entire life I've been a "late bloomer" and "slow" in terms of many of the metrics and milestones of conventional society.

Late to landing a double jump when I was a competitive ice-skater as a child. Late to puberty. Late to get a cell phone. Late to recognize the dawning wave of tech-jobs-for-anyone in Silicon Valley, right in front of my eyes when I lived there. Late to marriage. Late to motherhood. Late to get a joke.

At 53, I can now see I'm simply living at the pace of my human mammalian body, in concert with other nature beings beside me. I go outside in the morning, for the walk to school, and see our first poppy of the season preparing to unfurl her bold petals into the air, letting them press and open past their soft green encasement without an ounce of rush. And that, my friends, is something to behold, and take inspiration from.

How slow might you unfurl your bold, soft petal beauty for the world?

In some things, maybe the best things, there's no prize for getting it done fast or first. There's offering up beauty, and goodness, at whatever pace is required.

WEEKLY PRACTICE INVITATION

The what: Slow emergence nature play!

The how:

  • Enjoy a 10-minute stroll at dawn or dusk, when you can behold nature beings opening to the day, or winding down for the night
  • Locate one nature companion who, for you, resonates as a wise and delightful guide for how to emerge, or change, or grow, with a distinctive pace and style.
  • Across the week, or a season, gently explore one feature of yourself you'd like to unfurl into the world at the just-right speed for you.

One Being Is Enough Hello Reader Wow, how is it May? Happy Beltane, a.k.a. May Day! A major Gaelic festival, Beltane signals the beginning of summer or the mid-point between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. We may think of the maypole dance as the quintessential symbol of May Day. But let's not forget the bonfire! Fire--as purifying and protective--is the element no Beltane celebration can do without. For myself, I've been feeling an ebb in my inner fire, after a couple weeks of colds, a...
